[00:00:12] Speaker A: Welcome to the Blessed Sacrament Homilies podcast where our mission is to help everyone recognize and experience the presence of God. We hope you are nourished and encouraged by the word. Thank you for joining us. [00:00:26] Speaker B: The Lord be with you and with your spirit. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke glory to our Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me that the mother of my lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled. And Mary said, my soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord. My spirit rejoices in God my savior, for he has looked upon his lowly servant. From this day, all generations will call me blessed. The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm and has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel, for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever. Mary remained with her about three months and then returned home. The gospel of the Lord praise to. [00:02:42] Speaker A: You, Lord Jesus Christ. [00:02:45] Speaker B: I have a friend and she's kind of a tiny thing about this beg. And when I first got to know her, she started referring to me as her prison buddy. And at first I was slightly confused by that until she clarified that, well, she said if I ever ended up in prison and there was anybody like you, I would befriend them right away for protection. Okay, well, I guess we all have to have our gifts. I'll take that as mine. But that is not dissimilar from our relationship to Jesus Christ. He is truly our protector. He is the one that we want to stand next to at all times and in all places. He is the one that can give us what we need, that promise and hope of eternal life. And we see that in this very feast day, because at the heart of the assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an understanding that because of her close and intimate relationship with her son, we believe that she was lifted, body and soul into heaven upon her death. And it's not because she is divine, but it is because of her relationship with the divine that is her son. And that is the exact same relationship that we're allowed to have. The difference being her relationship comes from the fact that she gave birth to the son of God. And our relationship comes from our baptism, where we died, to everything that is temporary, everything that disappears so that we could bind our life to Christ. And more importantly, he could bind his life to ours. And that when we left those waters, he's tied to us. He's our prison buddy. He's the one that protects us at its heart. That is the whole reality of this day. We celebrate. We remember our blessed mother, and we give gratitude for her. But we recognize that all of the glory that she shares in is because of her relationship to her son, and so is ours.
